WE WANT TO CHANGE THE PERCEPTION ABOUT TEACHERS – Dr.Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba
The Hon. Minister of State for Education, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has assured that, the Ministry would change the way teachers are seen. He made this declaration when members of Queen Amina Buhari Support Initiative/Media Team paid him a courtesy call in his office on Tuesday.
Dr. Nwajiuba while thanking the group for her steadfastness and unwavering commitment to the success of President Buhari’s administration maintained that his ministry is aware of the pitiful state of teachers in the country and assured the visiting team of his resolve to make a turnaround in the lives and working conditions of the teachers. He gave examples of nations like Finland where to teach in their schools, one had to possess a minimum of a Masters degree, thus making the teaching profession the most respected.
Dr. Nwanjiuba during the courtsey visit which rather became interactive unveiled the major transformstive points the ministry is engaging to improve teachers welfare and establish a new era in the teaching profession in Nigeria. He called them The 5 pillars for teachers which include:
1. Life insurance for every teacher in Nigeria.
2. All teachers shall be entitled to a laptop and other accessories.
3. To give teachers national discount (10%) on every purchase made.
4. To give 1 Gigabit of data to teachers monthly.
5. To establish a policy of well paid sabbatical leave for teachers with an intention to equipping them with several skills and ICT training.
He assured that these five pillars, if prudently followed, would make the teaching profession in Nigeria, the first point of call for all applicants. “It would become the most honourable and intellectually demanding of all professions.” Dr. Nwajiuba said.
Earlier, the Founder/National Coordinator of the group, Comr. Iveren Ukula known better as Queen Amina Buhari, while felicitating with the Hon. Minister on his appointment said that Dr. Nwajiuba’s appointment is a clear recognition of his steadfastness, immense commitment and unwavering dedication to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Comr. Ukula added that, “yours has been a story of bravery, resilience and dedication to your constituency and country. Your immense knowledge of grassroots politics as well as its dynamics has been one of the outstanding gifts the country and this group is proud to associate with. This is the source of our unwavering confidence in your ability to bring out the best in this ministry as well as the entire administration of President Muhamadu Buhari.”
She concluded that, “the task of reviving and refocusing the education sector is a serious responsibility. Over time, this sector has faced severe challenges but we are confident you possess what it takes to assist the Hon. Minister, Hon. Adamu Adamu to turn around the sector that is the core of our country and generations yet unborn.”
